In a world on the brink of climate and economic collapse, as a technological dark age rises and society falls into lawlessness, DCI MacGillivray is under pressure to close a series of seemingly innocent deaths in Hawham, Sussex. However, MacGillivray is also grieving the deaths of his wife and daughter - and their killer, local crime boss Sam Marsh, has just been acquitted.
