Series: Lord Peter Wimsey

Dorothy L Sayers' sleuth Lord Peter Wimsey is the classic amateur detective of the Golden Age of crime fiction. These are literary whodunnits which transport the reader into an England of the 1930s; if you are new to the series, you might start with the first Harriet Vane novel Strong Poison, or The Nine Taylors for an atmospheric read involving the intricacies of bell ringing. Murder Must Advertise is also a fascinating study of a 1930s workplace of an advertising agency. Sayers' fans will most often re-read Gaudy Night, set in Oxford.
