UPDATE 23 August 2025
Owing to the uncertain situation regarding tariffs, it is impossible to calculate the cost and delivery times of posting to the USA at the moment. The BBC article Royal Mail and DHL halt some US deliveries over tariffs explains why.
Therefore, until further notice, we have had to suspend our service to the US. As soon as we know more, we will open the shipping to USA option again, with updated cost and delivery times. We will monitor the situation closely in the meantime.
This is affecting our business, we apologise to our customers for any confusion caused by this, and we hope the situation will be resolved as soon as possible.
1 August 2025
We have updated our shipping terms to the US to include more options. It is now possible to choose between a faster delivery and an economic option. Canada has been added as a new destination. All parcels continue to be posted using Royal Mail, and fed into the local postal services (USPS and Canada Post) - in our experience this is the most reliable method.
The cost for posting parcels to North America remains frustratingly high, and the shipping rates we charge just cover the cost.
Any import duties and potential tariffs are not included in the rates we charge - these are the responsibility of the recipient. At the moment, books are exempt from US tariffs, and hopefully will remain so, even when the new regulation revoking the de minimis excemption in the US for parcels valued under $800 comes into force on the 28th of August 2025.
The US is Gumshoe Books' largest market after the UK, and we want to be able to continue to supply the titles in our catalogue to mystery and crime fiction fans in the USA. If there are any updates to the tariff situation, we will update this here.
