London 2016. As Britain gears up for the Brexit referendum, DS Max Lomax is investigating a dark money network looking to subvert the outcome of the vote.

With time running out, lines of investigation blocked, and his last viable lead washed up dead in the Thames at Deptford, Lomax finds himself on a collision course with the authorities, losing friends and confronting an enemy determined to gain power and influence in the new Disunited Kingdom. When a chance meeting with an old and dear friend gives Max a route back into the investigation, he sees a chance to leave behind the world of lies and shadows once and for all. But as the referendum approaches, the stakes are raised and the uneasy summer takes a dark and irredeemable turn.
